Understanding India

I was travelling in a taxi, through one of Singapore's well know express ways. The taxi driver commented on the traffic. Will narrate it as a conversation ;-)
Driver : "Singapore express ways, all failure - Express way and only 3 lanes"
Me : (smiling) "then you should come to India. National highways are not even 2 lanes"
Driver : "India is different. Its so big. Population is high. And the administration is bad. Where money buy people, there everything gone. Everyone needs power. Minister does mistake, not punished. Minister's son rape's your daughter, not punished. You give money, you can come out of prison. India, Indonesia, Thailand -- everywhere same"

I was surprised at his knowledge about my country. Might be he also has seen all these in his country. Each and every word of his, had meaning in it. Why is India like this? What should I do to improve my country's situation? I have questioned myself many times. It all boils down to the attitude of people.

If people have the assurance that even after helping others, we will have our share, then everything goes good. But how can a person think that way, in a highly populated country. People dont want to think about others. And thats quite natural.

When I first landed in Singapore, I was so exited about the way people followed the traffic rules. If a lane says that its only to go straight, people turning right dont enter that lane. About other rules, if the train/bus displays a board "No eatables", people dont eat inside the bus/train.
Ahhh !!! but thats not the case. As days passed, I understood its something different. In Singapore, the number of cars is less compared to other cities in India. They have a limit for the number of cars -- Good job by the government. I was caught up in a traffic jam recently, near an exhibition. I noticed that the lanes that were for going straight, were also occupied by cars turning right. Just because people lost the patience and wanted to get into the exhibition soon. I started noticing people having food in trains/buses. Just because no one is watching them.

Then I realised, its not the rules and the government that make all these possible. To a certain extent it is. But to a larger extent, its the attitude of the people. If the cars are less, people know that there turn would surely come, and allow other cars to pass through. But in country like India, if you allow one car to pass through, you will have to wait till the peak hour gets over. There are so many cars. Well..... The supremo "TATA" is coming up with "Rs.1 lakh" cars. Thats another story to discuss.

To sum up, Singapore is like this because of all these factors. Population is less. People have the belief that they get their share if they make way for others. Along with all these, its not a democracy. Heard of "too many cooks spoil the dish". Thats what democracy is. Yes, I get a lot of freedom in democracy. But do i really enjoy and cherish that freedom. NO. I have the right to speech. But if speak against someone in power, I cant say if i see the next day. Democracy is just good in papers. In reality, its a waste.
So ... Singapore has a two party rule, and the other aspects of democracy too. The citizen has the rights to question anyone in power. If a crime against a person in power, is proved, he is punishable.

Well ... Lets come back to India. When will India be like this. There are a few things to be done.
1. Reduce population on the first note. In cities, "Double Income No Child" is very common now. But the areas concerned are not in cities. In villages, a family has 4-5 childs. I dont want to eloborate on why they have so much. Our requirement - try reducing the number.
2. When someone questions against the wrong deeds, try giving him a helping hand. I have many times scolded people who try entering the queue in the middle, in a railway station, to get tickets faster. No one supports me.
3. Another contrary point. If you are supporting someone fighting against another, please get to know the situation and then decide. Might be he is fighting for a wrong reason.
4. Points 3 and 4 hold good, only if you dont have a family (that either supports you, or you support). Because if you have a family, you have emotions attached. Mom, dad and wife -- they tell you not indulge in any of these public matters as we would face consequences after that. Yes, thats true !!! Might be the guy I questioned was a local gangster.
But till when we should fear all these. If you feel you are doing the correct thing, you should not even hesitate to hit back.

What I would suggest is, allow your near&dear ones to fight for a cause and even die in the process. Sounds rude ? Yes !! its rude ... If everyone thought of losing their lives, there would not have been any freedom struggle. It was freedom from British before. Now it should be freedom from fellow people who dont allow us to live in peace.

Having said this, its not that easy in India, I know that ... But just dreaming that it would be good if it happens.

Ouch !!! Its Ankylosing Spondylitis ... Its Curable !!!

The word Arthritis gets interpreted by people in many ways. For some, its a disease that affects the spinal cord, and for some it affects the knees. For some, it affects neck and for others, its concerned with joints. So what exactly arthritis is? And what does it do to a human body?Arthritis, according to modern science, is just a condition of a human body losing mobility because of stiffness of joints. Its cause? No one has been able to find that out. If someone had found it, they would have researched a solution for this. Well, that explains - there is no cure for this. Hold !! Dont take it for granted. Because there are solutions to so many things what modern science has not known. Arthritis has so many divisions in itself. Arthritis generally refers to a condition where a human body's mobility is reduced. The reason might be many.
Thats just a introduction on Arthritis. For more on that, please refer to the very many articles that a google search will lead you to.

I started writing this with educating people with a well-known medical division in India, Ayurveda. In India it might be very famous. But across the world, a very few people know it. Let me start by giving my own example. I inherited "Ankylosing Spondylitis" ( one of the sub-sets of Arthritis ) from my parents. My dad, mom and my brother had it. I had the first taste of it when I was 17 years old. I was not able to get up after a deep sleep on a iron cot. The cot was so cold as it was just iron. Pain-killers immediately relieved me off my pain and I was all well. This kept creeping-in on me for around 4 years with me taking pain-killers to take control of the situation. After 4 years, my mobility was completely gone as this affected my hip joints. Pain-killers still did their work. But this time, my dad suggested that we consult an ayurveda doctor. And he had strong belief in Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala(AVS - http://www.aryavaidyasala.com/ ) which had treated all in my family. We went there and they dint feel the need for me to get admitted as I was quite young. They prescribed medicines without even a single test being carried out. The doctor dint even examine me. He just had a look at the joints. That was his expertice. I continued with the medicines for around 1 year and as the pain started reducing, I slowly started discontinued the medicines. I used to have just one medicines and just for one time in a day. I continued with minor pains and joint stiffness. After 5 years of work in Bangalore, I came to Singapore. The activities that kept me active in Bangalore were totally reduced and the medicines were stopped. Now for the past one month I suffer with a swollen knee joint. I cant bend my leg and I cant walk properly. I went to SGH ( Singapore General Hospital ), where doctors felt that it was strange to have such a swollen joint. That was just medical books talking to me. Well ... Thats another long story.

After feeling totally frustrated, I got hold of this "Malayala Ayurveda clinic" which uses medicines from AVS. I was totally impressed and was asked to undergo a 7 + 7 days treatment. 7 days of massage and 7 days of total rest. They were very sure that this swollen joint would become ok in 1 - 3 months. Yes !! thats the time an ayurveda medicine takes. It takes time but cures gently without any side effects. Am into my 11th day of treatment and I can already feel a lot of improvement. This has given me a lot of confidence that I can be back to my normal activities in a few days.

For those who are in Singapore and suffer from any kind of muscular pain or any twists of joints or any kind of joint stiffness or any other arthritis symptoms, do make a visit to
Malayala Ayurveda Clinic
Perumal Road
Farrer Park MRT station (G exit)
Phone : 62932760

Have one thing in mind, Ayurveda doesnt cure instantly. And you will have to follow strict diet as per the doctor says. And the pain might increase and decrease during the treatment. Wait for a complete month to decide further. I bet, you will note a major difference.

For those who can reach India, AVS is one of the most known hopitals in Kerala ( a state in India ). Other famous hospitals include
Thaikaatu moos ( http://www.etmoushadhasala.com/web/nursinghome.htm )
AVP ( http://www.avpayurveda.com/ - a split from AVS )

Am sure I will revisit this space to register my victory over my dearest enemy "Spondylitis".

================================================
After more than 10 years, I write here again, as I got 3 emails from this post, asking for references.
I realaized Spondylitis is just a condition and not curable, but avoidable with good food habits and regular exercise. I play badminton now without any pains.
Back pains are regular, but then, not to the extent that it hurts anymore.
All because of this http://www.aryavaidyasala.com/ . I underwent treatment for 38 days and took rest for 40 days - a break of 72 days from work. But then, if I were to take the regular pain killers and steroids, I would have been greatly dependent on those until now.

Money Matters

The title means "yes money does matter in this world".

Never again ...
I started working for this xyz company from 2004 december. Well .. To begin with, I thought that this should also be a company where my work would be recognised. Yeah, my work was recognised and I was paid well too... Worked day and night, went to the office whenever I was called for. I had to resign from this organisation for my own future ambitions. From my last pay cheque(settlement), pay for 6 days was missing. I asked the management, what the reason was. They told me that its because of the leaves that I had taken. I had 6 days of outstanding leaves. I made them understand that its a start-up and employees dint get compensatory-offs as well. And if there were excess leaves it could well be waived off. Dint want to fight because that would mean that Iam fighting for money. I told them that even when I went on vacations, I used to be complelety in touch with my colleagues and I have helped them in lot of occassions. Pat came the reply, that the management feels that the employees are mature enough to decide when to work.
This made me realise whichever company Iam working for, pays me for whatever I do. Nothing more than that. As Infosys chairman said "Love the job you do, never love your company, - You never know when the company would stop loving you". Very true...

Well.. This might be happening world over. When people jump from one company to another for money, I would think that its bad. But why not ? After all its for money that we work. And AFTER ALL, you get paid for whatever you do. Company unakkena maamana machaana...

After around one month, after some chat with the management, they DONATED me the pay for those 6 days. Thanks !!! I whispered to myself... After all, I needed the money :-)

The Start

Writing too much on mysteries of life, I thought I should just write something on what I see daily. So here I go creating my second blog. Could'nt find any other name and put the title as "Just Another Blog"
